Following your Aspen rafting adventure, you may want to explore all Buena Vista and its surroundings have to offer.  180 degrees from the Aspen experienced, BV is rustic and largely undeveloped with nothing glitzy or fancy about it.  However, like Aspen, the surroundings are beautiful (Buena Vista means "beautiful view" in Spanish.  And don’t miss Cottonwood Hot Springs and Mt Princeton Hot Springs, both just minutes outside of town.

More About Aspen
Aspen is a beautiful mountain town with so much to offer. Most people know that Aspen boasts four ski mountains - Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass - but many people don’t realize that Aspen is also one of the oldest mining towns in Colorado.  Unlike Vail, which grew up solely in response to the ski mountain, Aspen is an authentic old Colorado town that  was a mecca for miners coming to excavate the rich silver ore in the area in the early 1880s.

Aspen was known at one time for producing about 1/6th of the silver in the United States and about 1/16th of the world’s silver.  However, like many "boom and bust" mining towns, in 1893, about 80% of Aspen’s business went bankrupt when the bottom fell out of the silver market. But rather than becoming a ghost town like so many others, Aspen held on, due in part to the refined citizenry that had settled there and created permanent (brick!) buildings and an unusual number of cultural offerings, including the historic Wheeler Opera House and the elegant Hotel Jerome.

Aspen is still known today for its culture, concert halls, art galleries, theaters, numerous festivals, artists’ workshops, amazing art glass, fine dining, and, of course, gorgeous scenery and mountain charm. Visitors can conveniently fly directly to Aspen or take the ride through majestic Glenwood Canyon with a stop in the world-famous hot springs pool of Glenwood Springs.
